Former Kindergarten Teacher Develops Research-Based Phonics CD for Kids

Alice Villa, a former Kindergarten teacher had a vision. Five years later she has made that vision come to life in the form of The ABC RAP. Villa is not only a creative artist but a sharp business woman, a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a friend and a mentor. She has helped hundreds of children throughout the State of New Mexico in reading, writing and math through her company The One Room School House. Alice Villa’s Story

Hello my name is Alice Villa, owner of The One Room House and creator of The ABC RAP. I am a graduate of New Mexico State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After graduation I worked as a Kindergarten teacher. I wanted to run my own business and I needed to find a way to integrate my education background into it. After years of research and hard work The One Room School House was born.

The One Room School House provides educational services to students in New Mexico. After resigning from the public schools as a teacher I bought a small key board and began putting some of my poetry to music. After immersing myself into this I began to write songs as well. All the lyrics to the songs on my CD, The ABC Rap, were written at this time. I immediately took my idea to the test.

Where would that be? You guessed it, with children. I called a teacher friend and asked if I could do a literacy presentation for her class. I took my $99 keyboard and my $50 Karaoke machine and the results were amazing. The students reacted in such a way there was no denying that I was on to something. Something BIG! As you know teachers don’t make a lot of money especially a teacher who just quit her job and even more so a single parent teacher for that matter. So the ABC Rap went on the shelf while I built a strong company.

After building the strong company I began searching for a recording studio with a producer who could bring my vision to life: Learning to hip hop style music. All the street artists I met thought this was corny, rock artists didn’t know what I was talking about so I created my own recording studio. Finally, I found an awesome young man who went out of his comfort zone and we went to work and the rest will be history.

The ABC RAP is going to revolutionize the way students learn not only their ABC’s but it’s so much more. The proof is in the children. I have since performed for students of all ages and there is something for everyone. Even parents and teachers are moving to the cool hip beats of THE ABC RAP!! ABC RAP is going to sweep the Nation!
